License: Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Illinois
Certifications: Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR)
Must-Have: Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS (Basic Life Support) CPR

Description:
General job duties include providing hemostasis to reduce potential for fluid volume deficit by clamping and/or ligating vessels, using electrosurgical or laser units, applying direct pressure, and applying chemical agents that promote coagulation as directed by the surgeon.
Provide exposure of the operative site through appropriate use of retractors, placing and moving retractors as necessary, while being aware of anatomical structures.
Exposure is also provided using other instruments, suctioning, and sponging.
Use surgical instruments skillfully in ways consistent with their design and purpose as directed by the surgeon.
Handle all types of tissue appropriately to reduce potential for injury or compromised blood supply.
Suture skillfully all varieties of tissue with appropriate suture materials and techniques.
Assist in the closure of wounds or independently close wounds under the direction of the surgeon.
Assist the surgeon in identifying structures that should not be ligated.
Function as a second assistant based on availability.
Monitor patient care activities for the purpose of quality improvement.
Specialties include orthopedic, general, urology, podiatry, ENT, OB/GYN, and ophthalmology.
Utilize computerized charting using Epic and electronic medication systems.
Demonstrate flexibility regarding hours of availability to provide services when requested during work hours and for on-call needs.
Call coverage is included in this role for 1-2 weekdays and every fourth weekend.
The unit consists of seven operating rooms.
Dress code includes provided scrubs.
Orientation and training will focus on outpatient and acute care for ambulatory patients.
The schedule runs Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Nonbillable orientation hours apply prior to guaranteed hours.
