Description:
The post-partum unit has 29 beds and a dedicated team of 61 staff members.
During the night shift, staffing includes 1 charge nurse, 1 desk PCT, and RNs based on census.
Patient ratios are estimated at 3-4 couplets per RN, though not guaranteed.
The unit is equipped with Welch Allen vitals machines, CPN monitors, and POC glucose monitoring equipment.
The EMR systems used are CPN and Meditech.
Typical procedures performed in the unit include:
– Point-of-care glucose monitoring
– Breastfeeding support
– Post-partum hemorrhage management
– Assisting with circumcision
– Hypertension assessment and management

This post-partum unit is a close-knit family of nurses and PCTs who work very well together as a team in a busy setting.
The unit handles high-risk patients, with low-risk patients managed in a separate facility nearby.
The hospital delivers between 400-500 babies per month, providing a dynamic and engaging work environment.
Scheduling is fairly flexible and adaptable to accommodate the needs of traveling nurses.
Candidates with high-risk post-partum experience and level 2 nursery experience are preferred.
