Description:

The facility has 247 licensed beds and is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.
It is a teaching hospital and a Chest Pain and Certified Stroke Center.
The unit has 24 beds with an average patient census of 21-23.
Patient types and common diagnoses include respiratory, trauma, DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplants, complex medical cases, and blood disorders.
Patient ratios vary based on acuity, commonly 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2.
Skills required include experience with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device, Belmont Rapid Infuser, critical care vasoactive drip titration, management of invasive lines, aseptic and sterile techniques, ventilator and trach management, and various other patient management skills.
Support within the department includes a healthcare tech, unit secretary, charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, IV team, respiratory therapists, intensivists, residents, advanced practice providers, and resource nurses.
Technology and equipment used include EPIC EMR, Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Omnicell for med dispensing, Philips monitors, and various other medical devices.
Floating to related units such as Pediatric CVICU, NICU, and others may be required.
Orientation includes a general orientation and 2 days of departmental orientation.
The scheduling cycle is every 6 weeks, with a weekend rotation requiring work on 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays, and 2 Mondays within each cycle.
There is no call for travelers; however, floating to other units may occur as needed.
Holiday expectations include working 75% of holidays with specific requirements for holiday eves and days.
