– Ability to float to ICU or Stepdown and perform BIPAP, CPAP, and Mechanical Ventilation
Description:
The unit consists of 11 to 12 beds following expansion.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 nurse to 4 patients.
Common diagnoses include Post-operative vascular cases, hemodynamically stable cardiac dysrhythmias, CVA, Sepsis, Renal patients, Stable acute MI, Unstable angina, and post Cardiac Cath cases.
Experience with critical drips and telemetry is required.
Familiarity with CRRT and IABP is preferred.
Nurses are required to titrate drips, including Insulin, Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone, and Low dose Dopamine.
There is a Charge Nurse in the ICU assigned as a resource for the PCU.
A Charge Nurse is also assigned in PCU with patients.
A House Supervisor is available 24/7.
One patient care technician (C.N.A.) is available for every 10 patients, though nurses assist with general care and unit clerk duties when necessary.
Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BIPAP, high-flow O2, mechanical ventilation via Tracheostomy, specialty beds, and IV pumps.
There is a Monitor Tech available 24/7, and RNs are responsible for reading strips.
Weekend requirements include every other weekend, with holiday coverage required rotationally.
Traveling staff may need to float to Med-Surg Telemetry or the Emergency Department as needed.
Dress code requires solid color scrubs without embroidery or patterns.
Approved colors for scrubs include navy for RNs/LPNs and dark grey/pewter for Techs.
Solid fleece zip-ups in grey, black, navy, or royal blue may be worn.
Solid undershirts in white, grey, or black matching the scrub top can be worn.
Closed-toed shoes only; no crocs permitted.
Orientation includes a general hospital orientation on the first day, a full day of Nursing Orientation for RNs/LPNs, and computer training.
Healthcare professionals will complete two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor.
An abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist will be due 90 days from the start date.
