Description:
Unit notes include a patient capacity of 32 beds.
Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5, with occasional 5-6 on nights.
PCU level care overflow on the unit has a ratio of 1:3.
Common diagnosis types include adults and geriatrics, cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, and ETOH.
Other conditions include Covid Bipap, occasional general surgical patients with heart histories, medical patients with cardiac histories, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis.
Experience or skills sought are in tele/cardiac nursing with PCU experience.
Epic familiarity is preferred, and first-time travelers are welcome.
Registered nurses are required to titrate drips like Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine.
Levo is not included in titratable drugs.
There is a charge nurse on each shift who may take a light load of 2-3 patients.
Nurse aids/patient care techs are available on the unit, with a goal ratio of 1:10.
RNs are expected to troubleshoot RT equipment such as Bipap, trachs, and airvo.
Tele/monitor technicians are available, with portable monitors and monitors in each room.
RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips.
Shifts operate from 7 am to 7 pm and 7 pm to 7 am.
If rotating shifts, a 7-7 rotation occurs no more than weekly.
Schedules are made by management, considering blocked scheduling based on unit needs.
Weekend coverage is required every other week, and holiday coverage is also every other week.
There are no call or standby requirements.
Floating is required in all areas as helping hands, with full patient loads in PCU and MS assignments, as well as some ER holds.
Any color scrubs are acceptable, and two shifts of unit-specific orientation are provided.
Orientation includes 12 hours on the first week, working Friday and Saturday, and transitioning to independent work by Sunday.
This is primarily a tele/cardiac unit.
