Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Job Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Neuro Trauma Surgery

Job Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Night 3×12-Hour (19:00 – 07:30)

Guaranteed Hours:

Experience: Minimum 18 months required, exceptions may apply based on unit specifics

License: For start dates 2-4 weeks out, must have regional or compact license in hand. For start dates 4+ weeks out, must have started the regional/compact licensing process.

Certifications: ACLS and BCLS

Must-Have:
– Minimum 2 years of telemetry and proficient neuro experience
– Management of drips

Job Description:

– Must be flexible with weekend requirements; weekend shifts will be based on unit needs. Travelers must be able to work 50% of weekends during their contract.
– Refusal to float may result in termination of contract; floating is required and will be within the hospital or to an affiliate nearby.
– Unit travelers may float to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) with provided resources if needed.
– Charge nurse responsibilities may be needed, with training and resources provided based on operational needs.
– Candidates must agree to possibly precepting and/or being assigned students to shadow them while on assignment.
– Experience with conscious sedation and level 1 trauma is preferred but not required.
– Handling of conditions and treatments such as CVAs, hydrocephalus, brain tumors and resections, seizures, TBIs, gunshot wounds, stabbings, motor vehicle accidents, falls, GI surgeries, and large wound cleaning and closures is required.
– Staffing ratios are typically 1:3-4 and rarely 1:5 during emergencies.
– First-time travelers are accepted.

Additional Information:

– The flu vaccine is required, with medical/religious exemptions only.
– Modules are pre-start and reported via an online learning system, taking an average of 8-16 hours to complete. These are non-billable.
– Orientation is provided, totaling 12 hours.
– All travel nurses should have graduated from accredited programs by the ACEN or CCNE.
– Two supervisor references are required during the application process.
