Description:
This is a mixed acuity unit that cares for both PCU and Med Surg patients.
It is a very busy surgical floor.
All permanent staff is PCU trained.
Staffing Ratios goal is 1:4, but can be 1:5.
Weekends are variable based on unit needs.
There is no set or blocked scheduling as that is not something offered to permanent staff.
Self-schedule requests must be entered to review preferred schedules before final posting.
The first week of orientation is Monday to Friday on day shift.
The second week consists of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor.
Patient diagnoses include surgical oncology, gastrointestinal, and reconstructive surgeries.
Special procedures may include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies.
There is a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls.
Preferred certifications include ONS Chemo.
Computerized charting is done using Epic.
