Description:
The position is for a registered nurse in a mixed acuity unit.
This unit cares for both progressive care unit and medical-surgical patients.
The surgical floor is known for its high patient volume.
All permanent staff are trained in progressive care.
The staffing ratio goal is 1:4 but may sometimes be 1:5.
Weekend work may vary based on unit needs.
Blocked scheduling is not available as it is not offered to permanent staff.
Nurses will enter schedule requests before the final schedule is posted.
Orientation begins with a full week of daytime training followed by 36 hours of on-unit training with a preceptor.
The unit cares for adult and geriatric patients.
Common patient diagnoses include surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and reconstructive surgeries.
Expected procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, and the management of oncologic emergencies.
There is a strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention strategies.
