Description:
Performs direct patient care activities in support of patient care delivery and team concept.
Provides competent and appropriate nursing care to the population of the unit.
Demonstrates knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures.
Consistently responds to patients, families, and co-workers in a professional, courteous, and positive manner.
Promotes an environment where the patient and family are at the center, and the patient care team works cooperatively toward their goals and objectives.
Has competent knowledge of all the normal stages of growth and development from pediatric to geriatric and delivers patient care appropriately.
Performs thorough assessments that are systematic, comprehensive, and accurate.
Demonstrates competent clinical skills.
Maintains complete and accurate documentation.
Demonstrates knowledge of documentation guidelines.
Assumes primary responsibility for documenting components of the nursing process and patient progress toward meeting outcomes in the patient chart, including patient education.
Demonstrates professional practice responsibility.
Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures and identifies areas for clinical and professional growth.
Maintains confidentiality according to guidelines.
Consistently follows safety protocols.
Demonstrates use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patients.
Demonstrates knowledge of the conditions, diagnoses, procedures, and equipment encountered for surgical patients.
Individualizes patient care according to the procedure and type of anesthesia across the continuum of care.
Assesses patient reactions and understanding of procedures and instructions.
Contributes to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care.
Prioritizes the care of patients depending on their needs and any changes in their condition.
Assesses patient understanding of surgical procedures and instructions, actively including patients and family members in teaching.
Performs pre-operative and post-operative assessments and education.
Supports the completion of patient testing in a timely manner.
Evaluates pre-admission testing orders for appropriateness and potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and current state of health.
