Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in a surgical/med-surg environment.

License: Current RN License issued by the appropriate state board of nursing or a current multistate compact RN License.

Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association.

Must-Have:
– Travel experience
– Step-down experience
– Acute care surgical floor experience
– Med-surg experience

Description:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.

Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.

Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.

Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients.

Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.

Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients.

Observes physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary.

Administers medication as prescribed.

Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.

Delivers patient care competently.

Interacts with family and patients in sharing the care plan while in the hospital and at discharge.

Informs patients and families of hospital procedures.

Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.

Delegates tasks to support staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Candidates should have experience caring for patients with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT.

Some patients may require step-down care.

Ratios for surgical patients are 5:1 and for step-down area are 3:1.

Candidates will care for new transplant patients or returning transplant patients needing close monitoring for reactions, rejection, and infection.

Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required.

Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques is necessary.

Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is needed.

Some computer skills are also required.

Education:
Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program is required.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
