– Port access experience
– Bone marrow transplant experience with Day 0-2
– Chemo administration
– Blood product transfusion
– Cardiac rhythm interpretation
– Comfort with blood cultures/central line care, PCA pumps, Heparin gtt
Description:
The facility has 247 licensed beds and is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.
The department has 24 beds, with 16 dedicated to Hematology/Oncology and 8 for Bone Marrow Transplant.
The average daily census is 22, with all staff working interchangeably throughout the unit.
Patient types include ages from neonate to adult, with common diagnoses such as solid tumor cancers, leukemia, sickle cell disease, and aplastic anemia.
The unit will also see pediatric behavioral health patients.
Patient ratios are as follows: Hematology/Oncology 1:3, Observation/Off Service 1:3-4, and Bone Marrow Transplant 1:1-2, based on acuity.
A charge nurse or supervisor will be available free-floating.
There is a unit educator who serves as an additional resource.
A task nurse will assist with admissions, discharges, and tasks.
Security is available until 9:30 PM.
Additional resources include rounding psych technicians, a consult team, advanced practice providers, and telemetry monitoring.
The electronic medical record system used is EPIC.
IV pumps and medication dispensing systems are in use.
Floating may occur to general pediatric medical units based on skillset and needs.
Orientation includes 2 days departmental training.
Scrub color is navy blue.
