Description:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to patients with a variety of health problems ranging from simple to complex.
Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.
Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
Assists the physician during patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients.
Observes physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently.
Interacts with patients and families to share the care plan while in the hospital and at discharge.
Informs patients and families of hospital procedures.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegates tasks to support staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required.
Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
Must maintain good working relationships with other employees.
Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is important.
Some computer skills are required.
Education:
Required Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a Board Approved Program preferred.
Preferred certifications and licensure are not applicable.
