Registered Nurse – Med/Surg
Registered Nurses are responsible for the assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care delivery. The Registered Nurse providers clinical leadership to the patient care team for the assigned shift.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and supervision to health care team during assigned shift.
- Coordinates bed and patient care assignments during shift and in preparation for the next shift to ensure consistency in care delivery
- Knowledge – In collaboration with Leader/Director, actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit, unit based in-service programs, reading current literature and seeking new clinical learning opportunities.
- Relationships – Establishes effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the health care team.
- Identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care decisions.
- Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues.
- Plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients.
- Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient’s health or the situation. Recognizes normal and abnormal findings when gathering data.
- Planning – Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes.
- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Reports data and outcomes to as appropriate to physician and/or other disciplines.
- Outcomes Identification – Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation.
- Implements care and supervises care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards.
- Serves as strong, positive role model for other health care team members.
- Assesses patients’ conditions and care delivery through direct observation, rounding, and data input from other team members.
- Teaching – Employs teaching strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
- Enhances professional growth through classes related to communication, teaching, stress management, conflict resolution, team building annually. (This is in addition to required unit/patient specific education.)
- Documents and reports care delivered to the physicians and other team members as needed.
- Provides performance feedback to team members input to Manager/Director regarding appraisals
