Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Must-Have: Travel experience and step-down experience.
Description:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
Assists physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently.
Interacts with patients and families to share care plans while in the hospital and at discharge.
Informs patients and families of hospital procedures.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegates tasks to support staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The unit primarily cares for inpatients pre- or post-surgical services, focusing on surgical experience.
Candidates will care for patients post-operatively and need experience with patients having new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT.
Some patients will require step-down care.
Ratios are 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for the step-down area.
The surgical transplant area also includes step-down and post-operative patients.
These patients are new transplant patients or returning transplant patients.
Close monitoring is required for reactions, rejection, and infection.
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required.
Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
Some computer skills are required.
Education:
Required Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science or higher in Nursing from a Board Approved Program.
