Description:
This is a MedSurg/Peds unit where ICU settings are not available.
However, the unit may accommodate patients with Tele or ICU acuity.
Nurses will not be asked to work outside their scope of practice.
BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications are required.
A profile review and manager interview will be conducted.
Candidates must have previous experience in MedSurg, Tele, and Pediatrics.
The maximum bed capacity is 25, with a recent patient census of 12-14.
Nurse to patient ratios range from 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night.
In critically ill situations, nurses will have 1:1 or 1:2 ratios.
Common patient diagnoses span from Pediatrics to Geriatrics.
Conditions frequently admitted include respiratory issues, infections, GI problems, ETOH intoxication/withdrawal, liver disease, AKI, DM, and DKA.
Wide-ranging skills are necessary due to diverse patient age and diagnoses.
Nursing coordinators will be available for support.
RNs are required to titrate drips, including Insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, Heparin, Aminophylline, MG, K+, Albumin, and blood products.
There is no Charge Nurse on each shift, but a house supervisor/coordinator is present.
There are nurse aides/patient care technicians available at a ratio of 1:12.
Respiratory therapy equipment includes Bipap, Vent, Glidescope, Heated high flow, bubble C-PAP, as well as standard oxygen supplies.
RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry data, as there are no dedicated monitor techs.
Shifts may include 7a, 7p, 7p-7a with rotating days and nights without guaranteed blocked scheduling.
A minimum of 2 weekends out of every 6 is required, with additional weekend coverage possible.
Holidays may also be a requirement based on staffing needs; requests for time off must be submitted in advance.
There is no on-call or standby requirement.
There may be a need to help in other departments if circumstances arise, but nurses will not be asked to perform outside their knowledge base or experience.
Scrubs of any color are acceptable.
Orientation consists of 2 days minimum.
Candidates must not be affiliated with any related facilities.
Requests for time off should be limited to 7 days or less during the 13-week contract.
Additional requests for time off after initial submissions will not be considered.
The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
The charting system used is Meditech.
A Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing is not required.
A valid nursing license is necessary.
This position operates within an acute care setting.
Floating to other departments may occur, but within the scope of practice.
