Guaranteed Hours:
36 hours for 3,12-hour shifts
48 hours for 4,12-hour shifts
40 hours for shifts under 12 hours (8 or 10-hour shift).

Unit Details: UM Health-West is moving forward with the planning and opening of the Observation Unit. The Observation Unit, in Tower B beds 275-288, will care for patients who meet observation criteria. The goals of care for the patients in the Observation Unit are frequent reassessment and treatment to expedite their transition to home or conversion to inpatient status. The Observation Unit will include discharging patients when medically stable, which may be at non-conventional times, to reduce overall hospital length of stay. Case management and social work resources will be available to support these patients and this nursing team. The attending physicians for these observation patients will follow the current process for admissions based on service line or specialty.
