Job Description

**Job Title:** Registered Nurse

**Job Specialty:** Medical-Surgical/Telemetry

**Job Duration:** 13 weeks

**Shift:** Night 4×12-Hour (18:45 – 07:15)

**Guaranteed Hours:**

**Experience:** 2 years of surgical unit experience required; travel experience preferred but not required

**License:** NC or Compact license required at the time of start

**Certifications:** BLS, ACLS, NIH

**Must-Have:** Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, experience with rapid response teams, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, surgical drains, airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac

**Job Description:**

– Provide quality care in an inpatient surgery unit for patients with a range of surgical and trauma-related diagnoses.
– Manage patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:6 for surgical/medicine inpatient patients.
– Handle a variety of inpatient surgical procedures, including but not limited to cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, and tumor removal.
– Operate and manage special equipment such as wound vacs, chest tubes, and various drains.
– Comply with unit systems for medication, documentation, and communication using tools like Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR.
– Participate in unit orientation and required training sessions effectively.
– Adhere to scheduling requirements, including working every other weekend and fulfilling storm or hurricane team duties.
– Float to similar units as needed and embrace flexibility in assignments based on unit needs and census.
– Complete any necessary pre-start modules and annual training.

**Additional Details:**

– Required to complete 2 days of hospital orientation and 24 hours of floor training.
– Scrubs required: All navy or navy on bottom/white top.
– No RTO allowed in the first week; RTO requests over 7 days require facility approval.
– Expected to work two out of three major holidays.
– Must pass EKG testing prior to starting the assignment.
