Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry – Neuro Intermediate

Job Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: 12-Hour Night Shift, 36 Hours per Week

Guaranteed Hours: 36

Experience: Minimum 2 years of Medical/Telemetry RN experience

License: Registered Nursing License

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Must-Have:

– General Medical/Telemetry skillset
– Stroke experience
– Cardiac rhythm interpretation
– Trach care
– Peripheral IV starts
– Chest tube management
– Nasogastric tube placement
– Drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley insertion/management, etc.)
– Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA) pumps
– Medication gtt management including Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, Intravenous fluids, Nicardipine drips

Job Description:

– Provide care for post-operative neurosurgery patients requiring frequent monitoring, including procedures like craniotomy for brain tumor, VP shunt, Deep Brain Stimulators, transsphenoidal surgeries, Chiari malformations, and cranioplasty.
– Manage various conditions such as subdural hematomas, CSF leaks, PLEX treatments, seizures, post-operative spine and ENT surgeries, and stroke.
– Work with a patient ratio of 1:3 for Progressive Care Unit or 1:5 for Medical/Telemetry, with CNA support ratios of 1:9 or 1:10.
– Floating is required within the designated region and within the scope of practice as needed.
– Utilize technology and equipment, including EPIC for Electronic Medical Records, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell for medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors.
– Participate in a two-day departmental orientation, with floating possible mid-shift. Payment remains on the clock for travel time between facilities.
– The team includes a charge nurse (24/7), phlebotomy (peripheral blood draws only), IV/VAT Team, Resource Nurse as available, Respiratory Therapist (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7).
– Nurses are responsible for reading monitors and responding accordingly, with no dedicated telemetry monitoring technician.
– Standard uniform is navy blue scrubs.
