Description:
This facility is a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital with a total of 874 licensed beds.
It is designated as a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center, and has received Magnet recognition.
Travelers must reside a minimum of 50 miles from the home unit.
The unit has 36 beds and requires a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience.
First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Common patient diagnoses include bladder cancer, prostatectomy, kidney stones, renal cancer, and patients requiring fluid resuscitation or blood products.
Other relevant conditions include GI disorders, liver failure, and pre/post-operative kidney, liver, or pancreas transplant care.
RNs can expect a patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:6.
Nurses must possess a valid RN license and certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
Required skills include trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, as well as drain and tube management skills.
Experience with cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and intravenous fluids is also necessary.
Staff support includes a varied ratio of CNAs and a charge nurse available 24/7.
There is a team available for phlebotomy and respiratory therapy, as well as around-the-clock hospitalist and intensivist support.
Nurses are responsible for reading telemetry monitors.
The facility uses an electronic medical record system, and equipment includes IV pumps and medication dispensing systems.
Floating is required within the region and according to scope of practice.
The specified region will determine floating assignments, and travelers will be compensated for travel time between facilities.
Orientation includes two days of departmental training.
Travelers will rotate weekends, working 75% of holidays, and can request up to 6 days off during the contract period, excluding holidays.
Scrub color required is navy.
