Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse

License: Current RN license

Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Must-Have: Cardiac skills and cardiac rhythm interpretation; basic non-titrated cardiac drips; general Med-Surg skills including trach care, wound care, and drain and tube management.

Description:
The facility has 174 licensed beds.
It is not a trauma designation facility.
There is no teaching hospital affiliation.
It is part of a Chest Pain Network.
The facility is TJC Stroke accredited.

The unit has an average census of 32 patients.
The unit accepts first-time travelers.
The culture of the unit is patient-centered, with engaged teammates and non-hostile behavior.

Common patient types and diagnoses include COPD, CHF, chest pain, myocardial infarction, non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, stroke, transient ischemic attack, and new onset cardiac arrhythmia.
The unit serves a wide variety of medical and surgical patients due to its overflow status.

Patient ratios are as follows:
RN to patient ratio is 1:5.
LPN to patient ratio (if applicable) is 1:5-6.
CNA to patient ratio is 1:8-9.

Support within the department includes:
CNA support for activities of daily living, ambulation, patient care, meal assistance, and other duties as assigned.
There is a receptionist and HUC available.
Charge nurses are generally without patient assignments, with additional team lead support.
Phlebotomy services are available.
An IV/VAT team is also present.
Resource nurses include team leads and clinical supervisors for support to the team and charge RN.
Hospitalists are available 24/7.
Intensivists are accessible 24/7 in the ICU.
Telemetry monitoring is centralized for all units on the fourth floor.

Technology and equipment used includes:
Epic for EMR.
Alaris IV pumps.
Omnicell for medication dispensing.
Phillips monitors and general Med-Surg equipment including telemetry monitors.

Floating may be required within the region and scope of practice.
Travelers will be compensated for time traveling between facilities if floating mid-shift.

Orientation consists of two departmental days.
Registered nurses are expected to wear navy scrub colors.
