Description:
The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe and competent quality care.
Care is delivered based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and their significant others.
Patient care is delivered by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
The nursing process is applied based on theory, research, evidence-based practices, and approved organizational nursing standards.
The clinical nurse assesses and evaluates patient care needs while applying critical thinking skills in patient care management.
Relevant assessment and intervention skills are integrated into the delivery of nursing care.
Collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team is essential for developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
Prioritization of all aspects of patient care, including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning for post-hospital care, is crucial.
Patient and caregiver education is provided, anticipating their needs and readiness to learn about the plan of care and fostering health promotion and disease prevention.
Effective and professional communication is maintained with patients, families, and all members of the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team.
Assignments are managed within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing.
The clinical nurse role models the principles of Relationship Centered Care through various patient interactions.
Consideration for the patient’s values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs is integrated into all aspects of care.
A therapeutic relationship is established and maintained with both patients and their families.
Evidence-based practices are utilized to enhance understanding of patients’ perceptions of care.
Patient service recovery is initiated when there are concerns, with escalation to the appropriate management as needed.
Demonstrating caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening is fundamental through dialogue and actions.
Staff support in using evidence-based practices to enhance patient perceptions is encouraged.
Quality and safety practices are prioritized, identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for improvement.
Clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served are demonstrated.
Process improvement strategies are implemented based on institutional standards and evidence-based protocols.
Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement quality improvement projects is expected.
Documentation of nursing practice is conducted accurately and thoroughly, supporting quality and performance improvement initiatives.
The clinical nurse engages in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes to ensure compliance and quality standards.
Operations tasks include performing charge nurse duties as assigned and coordinating with management to ensure effective utilization of supplies.
Material or staffing resource deficits are escalated when necessary.

Ongoing professional development is encouraged, supporting clinical colleagues, patients, and families.
