Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Experience: Minimum of 1 year in the related nursing specialty preferred
License: Registered Nurse License in the state of employment or compact
Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
Must-Have: Current certification from NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring or one of the following courses: Intermediate FHM.
Current STABLE certification.
Current NRP certification.

Description:
The competent Nurse practices independently and demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation.
Provides routine and complex care with the ability to focus on long-range goals or plans.
Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage clinical contingencies.
Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage the clinical situation.

Meets expectations of competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
Consistent with the Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process.
Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
Administers medications and treatments using appropriate protocols; monitors for side effects and effectiveness.
Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers.

Implements patient care and therapeutic procedures; monitors and documents the progression of treatment.
Evaluates the care and treatment provided to patients and their responses.
Plans, directs, and evaluates nursing care and functions in a nursing unit during an assigned shift.
Demonstrates proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
Educates and trains others on operations, ethics, and regulations within the industry.

Incorporates patient safety practices to promote a safe environment resulting in positive patient outcomes.
Communicates patient information effectively across the continuum of care.
Follows a specific set of clinical policies and standards.
Utilizes appropriate systems of communication and tools to facilitate patient discharge.
Analyzes policy and standards documentation to ensure organizational compliance.
Ensures that all medical equipment and supplies are in proper working order prior to use.

Shares experiences with processing medical orders for groups of patients or conditions.
Recognizes unexpected readings and alerts nursing or medical staff.
Utilizes appropriate systems to document incidents and participates in immediate investigations.
Must be able to perform unit-specific competencies based on patient care needs.

Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is necessary.
All newly hired experienced RNs must attend orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member.
Experience in a Perinatal Setting is preferred.
