Description:
Unit has 9 Labor and Delivery beds, 3 swing rooms, 2 operating rooms, and 3 bed OBED.
Patient ratios are 1-2.
Unit is staffed with a unit secretary and scrub tech, with a dedicated CRNA and midwife in-house 24/7.
OBGYN is available on call.
Documentation system includes CPN and Meditech.
Scheduling requires 4 weekend shifts per month.
Floating policy allows for floating to mother/baby or outside department to assist.
Patient experience requirement is to remain above 75%.
Advanced skills such as spinning babies and STABLE are helpful.
Procedures performed on the unit include circulating in OR, IUPC, FSE, MgSO4 management, postpartum hemorrhage care, nitrous oxide administration, and utilizing the JADA system.
Dress code requires hot pink and black uniforms, with a preference for hot pink on top.
Unit received HCA Unit of Distinction in 2021 and is a TIPQC Pilot hospital for NTSV and Team Birth.
Additional information includes a laborist team model offering 24/7 midwives and dedicated CRNA and OB on call.
Efforts are made to personalize each birth experience to meet patients’ desires and needs.
Couplet care is performed in the postpartum unit to ensure the newborn remains at bedside and promotes breastfeeding, with donor milk availability if needed.
There is an 8-bed level 2 NICU with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner dedicated to the unit 24/7.
NNP is available to attend all high-risk deliveries when needed.
