Job Title: Emergency Room NurseProfession: RNSpecialty: Emergency Room Nurse, Acute Care UnitDuration: Full-timeShift: NightHours per Shift: 12Experience: Minimum 1 year of ER experienceLicense: Current RN license within the state of practiceCertifications: Current AHA BLS Certification; AHA ACLS Certification within six months of hire; TNCC within six months of hire; NRP within one year of hire; AHA PALS within six months of hireMust-Have: ER experienceDescription: Provides direct and indirect patient care in the emergency and acute care settings. Exemplifies initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with minimal supervision. Able to triage patients safely, rapidly, and accurately upon entering the emergency care department. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow. Communicates with the attending provider about changes in patient status, symptoms, and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Evaluates patient care outcomes, consults with other staff as required, and adjusts nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care. Completes orientation packet and checklist as assigned. Cross-trains to learn the use of new equipment. Performs head-to-toe assessments on all patients and conducts reassessments as per policy. Utilizes the triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients and accurately assigns triage categories. Assesses and reassesses pain, utilizing appropriate pain management techniques. Educates patients and families regarding pain management and documents assessments consistently in the electronic health record. Monitors hemodynamic status of patients and correctly interprets results. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias, and treats appropriately. Performs waived testing per clinical laboratory and patient care unit policies. Interprets results of waived tests and takes appropriate action. Maintains current knowledge of medications and their administration based on age and clinical condition of patients. Follows medication administration rights to reduce the potential for medication errors. Prepares, hangs, monitors, and discontinues IV fluids using aseptic technique. Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, and assessment of changes. Performs all aspects of patient care in a safe environment that reduces the risk of healthcare errors. Follows provider orders from the electronic medical record consistently. Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span to provide age-appropriate care. Interacts professionally with patients and families and involves them in the planning of care. Performs related duties as assigned by management. Checks hospital email and accounts throughout the workday. Completes all mandatory education within the given timeframe and maintains regulatory requirements. Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Wears identification while on duty and uses the computerized punch time system correctly. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community. Attends annual review and department in-services as scheduled. Actively participates in quality improvement activities. Complies with policies regarding ethical business practices and the employee handbook. Communicates the mission, vision, and values of the organization, as well as the focus of the department. Meets dress code standards, ensuring a neat and clean appearance. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy and regulations, including HIPAA.
