Description:
Department: Emergency Room.
Number of beds/trauma bays: 6.
No separate triage area; travelers will triage patients.
No separate holding area; ER holds are intermixed.
Critical patients are transferred to a higher level of care.
No separate psych/seclusion rooms.
Security is not in-house 24/7; emergency response is called if needed.
On average, 8-25 patients are treated in the ER per day.
Nurse to patient ratios vary: 1:4 for stable patients and 1:1 or 1:2 for critically ill patients.
Staffing adjusts based on patient influx and acuity.
Diverse patient population with various medical needs, including acute illnesses and severe injuries.
Common cases include chest pain, respiratory distress, neurological issues, allergic reactions, and psychiatric emergencies.
Experience in managing traumas such as stabbings, shootings, fractures, and burns is required.
RNs must have skills to assist with respiratory medications/equipment and intubation.
Common drips include insulin, heparin, and amiodarone.
An ED physician or mid-level provider is on staff 24/7.
A charge nurse or coordinator is available to assist with traumas and critical patients.
Full-time tech support is available during the day; float CNAs assist at night.
Respiratory therapists are available by call 24/7, with in-house support during daytime hours.
RNs are required to read and interpret strips.
Radiology services include X-ray and CT adjacent to the ED.
RNs may draw blood, with lab staff assisting when available.
Shifts include rotating days and nights; weekend requirements are 2 out of every 6 weekends.
Holiday work is required, with requests considered in advance.
No call or standby requirement.
Floating requirements based on staffing needs and skill set.
Any color scrubs are permitted.
Minimum of 2 days of unit/department-specific orientation is required.
This is a fast-paced environment.
Successful nurses exhibit critical thinking, effective communication, adaptability, teamwork, empathy, compassion, clinical competence, time management, and professionalism.
Radius Rule: Candidates may not be actively employed with any affiliate organizations.
All requests for time off need to be provided upfront, with additional requests not being approved after submission.
Cancellation Policy: The hospital can cancel shifts with specified limitations during the assignment.
Charting system used is Meditech.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred but not required.
Trauma Level: CAH.
Care Setting: Acute.
