Description:
This position is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient before and during a surgical procedure.
The RN maintains patient safety throughout the surgical process.
The RN outlines individual care plans, implements, evaluates, and documents care of the patient during surgical procedures.
The RN provides leadership to the operating room team.
The RN communicates effectively with the patient, family, surgical team, supervisor, manager, and ancillary departments.
The RN participates in staff development through preceptorship and continuing education.
Responsibilities:
Assesses the needs of the surgical patient and develops a plan of care specific to that patient.
Implements and evaluates the plan of care during the procedure, making necessary adjustments while prioritizing patient safety.
Supervises activity in the operating room.
Anticipates and coordinates any schedule changes for the room.
Assembles equipment and supplies.
Assists anesthesia as necessary.
Monitors the sterile field throughout the procedure.
Communicates with the patient, family, physician, surgical team, supervisor, manager, and ancillary departments.
Participates in staff development by attending in-services, educational meetings, staff meetings, and other educational opportunities for professional growth.
Scheduling involves working Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, with call on those nights.
The schedule rotates between team members, ensuring each member has adequate time off.
