Job Details:
- Beds: 24-bed SCU
- Patient Ratios: 1:3-4
- Census: Typically operates at 98-99% capacity.
- Patient Population: o Patients requiring intermediate care between ICU and med/surg levels. o Common cases include post-cardiac procedures, stable ventilator weans, and telemetry monitoring. Unit Layout & Amenities: Unit has a “U” shape layout.
- Nursing station is centrally located on the floor for easy access to all patient rooms.
- Pyxis machines are located at both ends of the hall for medication access.
- Windows on each patient room allow visibility from the hallways.
- One centralized clean supply area for staff convenience. Support Services:
- The White Team (cardiology team) stays close to the unit, offering accessible support for cardiac patients.
- CenTrack system is utilized to manage and silence alarms effectively, improving the care environment. General Information:
- SCU nurses are responsible for providing care to patients who require close monitoring but are more stable than ICU patients.
- Nurses should be comfortable with telemetry, managing post-surgical recovery, and providing support for patients transitioning out of critical care.
- The unit’s high census rates and diverse patient needs require strong organizational and multitasking skills.
