Job Description

Registered Nurse/Medical Surgical:

Duration:13 Weeks

Shift: Night 3×12-Hour (19:00 – 07:30)
Day 3×12-Hour (07:00 – 19:30)

Description:
Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg provides direct patient care in a medical-surgical unit, managing a range of patient conditions. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, administering medications, performing assessments, and coordinating with healthcare teams. The RN ensures patients’ comfort and recovery, educates patients and families, and documents care plans. Strong clinical skills, patient advocacy, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Staffing ratios – goal is 1:4, but can be 1:5
Weekends – variable based on unit needs
No set/blocked scheduling as that is not something we offer our permanent staff
Self-schedule requests – you will enter your schedule requests so we can see your preferred schedule before balancing and posting the final schedule
First week of orientation is Mon – Fri dayshift. Second week is 36hrs of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

2 Years of Experience Required

Patient Age group:
• Adults
• Geriatrics

Patient Diagnoses:
• The most common diagnoses include all subtypes of the following:
• Breast Cancer
• Lung Cancer
• Prostate Cancer
• Pancreatic Cancer
• Colon Cancer
• Esophageal Cancer
• Encounter for antineoplastic chemotherapy

Special Procedures/Unit Details:
• 17 James cares for ALL solid tumor cancers throughout the spectrum of their cancer journey; from new diagnosis, through treatment, and also assisting with transition to end of life care.
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls
• Cares for patients that have true med surg issues

Certifications Required:
• BLS

Skills Required:
• Telemetry Interpretation
• Telemetry monitoring

Certifications Preferred:
• ONS Chemo

Computerized charting: 
• EPIC
