Telemetry Nurse – Roles and Responsibilities:

A Telemetry Nurse specializes in monitoring patients with cardiac conditions or those requiring continuous monitoring. They work in Telemetry Units, where patients are connected to machines that track vital signs like heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Monitoring Vital Signs:

   • Continuously observe heart rhythms and vital signs using telemetry equipment.

   • Detect arrhythmias, irregularities, or significant changes.

2. Patient Assessment:

   • Conduct regular assessments of cardiac and overall health status.

   • Document changes and report critical variations to physicians.

3. Administration of Medications and Treatments:

   • Administer cardiac medications, IV fluids, and other prescribed treatments.

   • Monitor the patient’s response to medications.

4. Emergency Response:

   • Act promptly in emergency situations like cardiac arrest or arrhythmias.

   • Perform CPR or assist in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) if necessary.

5. Patient Education:

   • Educate patients and families about heart health, medications, and lifestyle modifications.

6. Collaboration with Healthcare Team:

   • Work closely with cardiologists, primary care physicians, and other specialists.

   • Communicate updates and changes in patient status.

Med-Surg Nurse – Roles and Responsibilities:

A Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) Nurse works with patients who are recovering from surgery or dealing with acute health issues. Med-Surg nurses are the backbone of hospital nursing and provide care across a broad spectrum of medical conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Assessment and Care Planning:

   • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments.

   • Develop individualized care plans based on patient needs.

2. Medication Administration and Management:

   • Administer medications, perform wound care, and manage IVs.

   • Monitor patient reactions and adjust care plans accordingly.

3. Pre- and Post-operative Care:

   • Prepare patients for surgery and provide post-operative monitoring and care.

   • Educate patients and families about post-surgical care and recovery.

4. Health Monitoring and Documentation:

   • Monitor vital signs, manage symptoms, and document patient progress.

   • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure continuity of care.

5. Patient Education and Support:

   • Educate patients on health conditions, medication regimens, and recovery plans.

   • Provide emotional support to patients and families during recovery.
