Must-Have:
PIV starts
Experience with dialysis catheter management
NG tube placement/management
Pleurx drains
Management of various surgical drains
Chest tube management
Peritoneal dialysis experience (preferred)

Description:
This position is for a blended unit focused on nephrology and oncology.
The facility has 457 licensed beds.
It is a trauma level III facility.
This is a teaching hospital.
The hospital is recognized as a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center of Excellence.
It is also a Bariatric Center of Excellence.

The unit has 14 private rooms.
There is no negative pressure capability in the unit.
The patient population includes those with ESRD, AKI, and patients needing fluid resuscitation and blood products.
Common diagnoses include medical overflow, hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis.

Patient ratios are set at RN: 1:4-5.
CNA ratios are 1:7 during days and 1:11-14 during nights.

Support within the department includes CNAs who assist nursing teams with activities of daily living, bathing, foley care, mobility, turning, and repositioning.
CNAs are trained to perform phlebotomy, 12 lead EKGs, and glucometer checks.
Charge nurses usually handle patient assignments.
Phlebotomy is a combined effort between RNs, CNAs, and an IV team.

There is support from a resource nurse when staffing permits.
Respiratory therapists are available 24/7 but are not dedicated to this unit specifically.
Hospitalists are also available 24/7 and are not dedicated to this unit.
Telemetry monitoring is done off-unit through a remote arrhythmia center when ordered.

The EMR used is Epic.
IV pumps are Alaris.
Med dispensing is managed through Omnicell.
Monitors are Phillips.

Specialized equipment in the unit includes a bladder scanner, EKG machine, transport monitor, and a patient safety net.
Orientation includes 2 days of departmental training.
Scrub color is navy.
The unit culture is professional and team-oriented.
