Job Title: Registered Nurse – Acute Care Job Specialty: Med-Surg Adult Job Duration: Full Time Shift: Nights, 72 hours per pay period; three 12-hour shifts per week, 7:00 pm to 7:30 am Guaranteed Hours: Not specified Experience: Not specified License: Nursing license (Compact Licensure must be converted to a Wisconsin RN license within 90 days if relocating) Certifications: BLS within 1 month of hire, ACLS within 2 years of hire, PALS encouraged within 2 years of hire Must-Have: Two-year degree in nursing required; four-year degree preferred Job Description:- Provide quality, professional, general nursing care to patients, assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care. – Adapt to changes in daily assignments, patient status, and unit needs. – Maintain general knowledge of disease processes and anticipated treatments, labs, vital signs, and potential complications. – Develop and document patient care plans based on assessments and medical diagnoses, setting priorities for nursing actions. – Provide care independently with minimal supervision within unit requirements, physician orders, and policy guidelines. – Respond to life-threatening situations following nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. – Maintain understanding of procedures and treatments and educate patients accordingly. – Perform or assist with procedures as per approved policy and procedure. – Record and notify providers of significant patient condition changes, reactions, and incidents. – Monitor and document patient conditions using computerized systems. – Review and verify physician orders via the electronic medical record, following through in a timely manner. – Be proficient in medication administration, including IV therapy, minimizing medication errors. – Initiate education plans and discharge needs for patients/families in coordination with policies and providers. – Collaborate with health team members to plan and provide patient care. – Maintain skills and equipment competencies as required. – Care for multiple patients safely, maintaining safety precautions. – Utilize Universal Precautions and infection control procedures. – Ensure proper specimen handling. – Float to other units as necessary. – Participate in department or unit quality improvement activities. – Attend unit meetings as per unit policy. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:- Intermediate proficiency with computers. – Comprehensive nursing skills and general equipment knowledge. – Strong ability to manage, coordinate, and educate patients and families. – Strong quantitative and analytical skills. – Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
