Job Description

Job Title: Nurse Manager
Job Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Job Duration: Permanent
Shift: Day Shift (Monday-Friday, must be flexible)
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience, preferably in a healthcare setting
License: Current RN licensure in appropriate state
Certifications: BLS required
Must-Have: BSN degree. Enrollment in an MSN program within 1 year of hire and graduation within 5 years of hire.

Job Description:

– Assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate clinical and operational functions of a nursing unit to ensure high-quality, cost-effective healthcare.
– Promote a safe environment and perform all job responsibilities in a safe manner.
– Maintain clinical and professional competency based on the age, developmental stages, and special needs of the patients served.
– Demonstrate and support a Professional Practice model, collaborating with interdisciplinary partners to achieve high-quality patient outcomes.
– Ensure unit operations and employees comply with the Nursing Practice Act, regulatory agency standards, and policies.
– Assume responsibility for recruitment and retention of qualified staff, ensuring appropriate orientation, education, credentialing, and continuing professional development through mutual goal setting and performance evaluation.
– Delegate effectively by promoting shared governance and developing research to positively affect clinical outcomes.
– Assist with treatments, therapies, procedures, and administer medications as necessary.
– Provide and assess the effectiveness of patient and family education.
– Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance nursing care quality, promote patient outcomes, and ensure a cost-effective environment.
– Develop policies, procedures, and standards reflective of evidence-based practice.
– Promote shared accountability for professional practice and allocate resources to meet unit needs.
– Oversee budgetary aspects and, along with staff, maintain a cost-effective unit.
– Responsible for overseeing 6 Clinical Supervisors and an Educator, providing guidance, support, and performance management.
– Possess strong clinical experience in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), particularly Level 4 neonatal care.
– Provide clinical leadership in critical situations with proven decision-making confidence and team management skills.
– Foster a collaborative and supportive environment while ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to best practices in neonatal care.
