Description:
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers.
They ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care.
The role is practiced in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and supported through a shared governance model.
The framework for practice is guided by a professional practice model and evidence-based practice and research.
RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by core values.
All RN Clinical Nurses must be licensed and knowledgeable.
They must uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the applicable Professional Nurse Practice Act.
Nurses implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards.
As members of the patient services team, individuals must uphold the voice of the patient and system policies while supporting service excellence goals.
Core Responsibilities:
Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
Perform the Nursing Process, including assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Use evidence-based practice and analytical/critical thinking to ensure individualized care.
Coordinate care through effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient care outcomes.
Provide relationship-based patient-centered care consistent with population-specific characteristics.
Always partner with patients and significant others, using appropriate methods for setting and purpose.
Practice using current clinical practice standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
Coordinate the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care.
Engage in diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods.
Support performance improvement initiatives to promote safe, quality patient care.
Participate in shared governance at all levels within the system.
Professional Development and Initiative
Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and required education.
Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses and staff.
Model the professional practice of nursing and create a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice and Research
Promote evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement.
Participate in data collection and pose relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice.
Consult appropriate experts and use evidence to address practice questions.
Resources and Support
Proactively plan for patient care across the care continuum.
Participate in the development of protocols and procedures collaboratively with care managers and team members.
Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
