Description:
RN – MedSurg/Tele position available.
The facility is a Level I Trauma and Teaching Hospital with 874 licensed beds.
The department consists of multiple MedSurg and MedTele units, with a focus on decompressing the emergency department and other specialty areas within the hospital.
Patient populations include adults and geriatric patients.
Common diagnoses include COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, falls with injuries, MVC with injuries, pulmonary embolism, DVT, UTI, pneumothorax, GI bleeds, and CVA.
Patient ratios are as follows:
1:5 on the main unit,
1:4 on two additional units,
1:4 on another unit.
General Med/Tele skillset is required, including stroke experience and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
The RN will be responsible for various clinical tasks such as PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management.
Medication management includes cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids.
Support staff within the department includes CNAs, secretaries, charge nurses, phlebotomy, and resource nurses.
Telemetry monitoring is performed by the nursing team, with no designated telemetry tech.
The EMR used is Epic, with IV pumps and medication dispensing equipment in place.
Position may require floating within the region and scope of practice as needed.
Orientation includes two days of departmental training.
Weekend rotation is required every other week, with 75% holiday work expected.
Requests for time off can be approved up to six days, excluding holidays, and must be added to the end of the contract if hours cannot be met.
Scrub color for the position is navy blue.
