License: Current RN License
Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association
Must-Have: Med Surg experience; experience with patients pre or post-surgical services; experience taking care of patients with drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT or DHT; ability to care for patients with new transplant reactions, rejection, or infection.
Description:
Under general supervision, provide nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.
Note all changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
Assist physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients.
Observe physiological manifestations of patients and intervene when necessary.
Administer medication as prescribed.
Initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
Deliver patient care competently.
Interact with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at the time of discharge.
Inform patients and families of hospital procedures.
Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegate tasks to support staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Nurses for this unit need Med Surg experience as this floor has inpatients pre or post-surgical services.
Candidates will care for patients post-operatively.
Experience in voiding lines, drains, and monitoring is required.
Ratios are 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for step down area.
Some patients will require close monitoring.
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is necessary.
Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques is essential.
Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is important.
Basic computer skills are needed.
Education:
Required: Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an approved program.
