Description:
This is a medical surgical position in orthopedics.
The unit consists of orthopedic and trauma patients.
Approximately 20% of the patient population undergo scheduled hip and knee surgeries.
These patients typically stay on the unit for about 24-48 hours for post-operative care.
The remainder of the patients are trauma cases involving motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, stabbings, and falls.
Trauma patients often come directly from emergent surgery or ICU and may have drains and tubes in place.
This is a high-acuity, fast-paced unit that demands teamwork and strong communication skills.
Travelers may float to different levels of care, including medical-surgical, progressive care unit, or intensive care unit, as required.
Traveler must be open to precepting students during the assignment.
Call-ins for contracted shifts are expected to be made up during the pay period.
Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned as needed, with training and resources provided.
Floating to affiliate hospitals nearby may be required.
