Description:
The position is for an RN in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
The facility has 247 licensed beds and is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.
It operates as a teaching hospital and is certified for chest pain and stroke care.
The unit has 24 beds with an average patient census of 21-23.
Patient types include respiratory cases, trauma, DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, acute and chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplants, complex medical cases, and blood disorders.
Patient ratios vary based on acuity and can be 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2.
The position requires competencies in ventilator and trach management, g-tube and j-tube management, chest tubes, epidurals, and sedation and analgesic drip management.
Candidates should also be capable of floating to Pediatric CVICU if discussed during the interview.
Support within the department includes healthcare tech support, unit secretary, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV team, resource nurse, respiratory therapy, intensivist, residents, and advanced practice providers.
The unit is equipped with various technologies, including electronic medical records and advanced monitoring equipment.
Orientation includes two days departmental training.
Weekend rotation is required with specific scheduling expectations.
Travelers may be floated to other units if needed.
Holiday requirements involve working a percentage of holidays, specifically during peak times.
Routine time off requests require manager approval.
