Must-Have:
– Strong Med/Tele skill set
– Stroke experience
– Cardiac rhythm interpretation
– Trach care
– Peripheral IV starts
– Chest tube management
– Nasogastric tube placement
– Drain and tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
– Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pump management
– Medication drip management including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, intravenous fluids
Description:
This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry.
The facility is a licensed teaching hospital with a high acuity patient population.
Teamwork and leadership support are emphasized within the unit culture.
Common patient types include those recovering from spinal surgery, strokes, seizures, and brain tumors/lesions.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are approximately 1:4-6, based on patient acuity.
Support staff may include varying levels of Certified Nursing Assistants and charge nurses available 24/7.
Nurses are responsible for monitoring patients directly, as there are no telemetry monitoring techs.
The electronic medical record system used is EPIC.
IV pumps utilized are Alaris pumps, and medication dispensing is managed through Omnicell.
Floating to other facilities within the region may be required based on patient needs.
Orientation includes departmental training to help acclimate to the unit.
Scrub color designated for this position is navy.
