Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required. Will accept first-time travelers.
License: Compact license pending approval is acceptable for submission; required at the time of start.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Chemotherapy administration certification (must be obtained prior to start).
Must-Have: Administer chemotherapy, inpatient setting experience, Med/Surg proficiency, colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin, insulin, chemotherapy administration, monitoring chemotherapy, surgical drains, chest tubes, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, wound care/wound VAC. Prior to start, candidates must pass EKG testing for this specialty.
Job Description:
– Primarily work with medical surgical patients with an oncology history and occasional chemotherapy administration.
– Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy through IV, PO, or injection.
– Manage patients with diagnoses such as acute kidney injury, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, pain, overdose, malignant neoplasms, acute respiratory failure, encephalopathy, failure to thrive, diabetic foot ulcers, heparin drips.
– Work with an average daily census of 42; during increased census periods, typical ratios may be higher.
– Engage in floating to similar units and alternative care locations with inpatient holding, such as in the emergency department or any alternate medical patient care location.
– Ensure attendance in monthly staff meetings.
– Required to work every other weekend and partake in storm or hurricane teams as needed. Travel contract staff may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters.
– Familiarity with unit systems like PYXIS for medication, EPIC for documentation, and SBAR for communication.
– Complete a 24-hour unit orientation over two shifts.
– Wear navy blue and white scrubs.
