Description:
The competent nurse, in a similar clinical setting, practices independently.
Demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation.
Provides both routine and complex care.
Develops the ability to cope with and manage contingencies in clinical nursing.
Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers.

Meets expectations of applicable competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
Consistent with the Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process.
This includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
Uses appropriate protocol to administer medications and treatments.
Monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatment.
Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care given.
Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers.
Identifies issues and resources as necessary.
