Description:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.
Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.
Assists physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients.
Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently.
Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plans during hospital stay and at discharge.
Informs patient and family of hospital procedures.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegates tasks to support staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Fast-paced Neuro ICU with various levels of acuity.
1:2 ratios for ICU status, and 1:1 for post-thrombectomy patients or extremely unstable patients.
The unit has a lot of EVDs and drains.
The patient population primarily consists of strokes, both ischemic and hemorrhagic, and post-operative neurosurgical patients.
They also handle a variety of other neuro diagnoses, including CNS infections, though these make up a smaller portion of patients.
Required skills and experience include knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services, and the application of nursing techniques is necessary.
Must have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is important.
Some computer skills are required.
Preferred education is a Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing Board Approved Program.
